Ideal Period for Visiting Zanzibar

YEAR ROUND

Tanzania's customary rainy spell spans April and May, prompting a pause in flights to parks and the closure of numerous safari lodges. Nonetheless, Zanzibar remains accessible during these rainy months. Ideally, the prime window for visiting extends from July to November, offering splendid weather; although, August tends to be bustling. Additionally, a secondary peak season unfolds from mid-December to mid-January, marked by heightened hotel rates due to limited availability over the festive period.

How to Get to Zanzibar

To get to Zanzibar, you have a few options. If you are coming from outside of Tanzania, the most common way is to fly into Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar. Many major airlines have direct flights to Zanzibar from various international destinations. Once you arrive at the airport, you can easily find taxis or shuttles to take you to your accommodation.

If you are already in Tanzania, you can also take a ferry from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar. The ferry ride takes about 2 hours and is a popular choice for those who prefer a more scenic journey. Alternatively, if you want to explore the surrounding islands, you can also hire a private boat or join a tour that offers island-hopping experiences.
